Sea to Summit Frontier Camp Kitchen Range
AWARDS
IF Award 2024 · Good Design Award 2023
The Sea to Summit Frontier range was developed as a lightweight, space-efficient camp kitchen system for backpacking and human-powered adventures, where every gram and every millimetre of packed space matters.
The project brought cookware, collapsible dinnerware, titanium utensils and camp kitchen accessories together under a cohesive system-based design language. A key objective was reducing weight and packed volume without compromising the usability, durability and cooking performance required for extended use in the outdoors.
Cookware development followed two complementary approaches. Hard-anodised aluminium cookware provided lightweight, efficient heat transfer for users who genuinely cook on the trail, while the collapsible cookware combined heat-resistant silicone walls with rigid cooking bases to dramatically reduce packed volume. Folding and locking handles, improved lid construction and carefully considered nesting relationships addressed usability and reliability issues identified through research into existing products.
The collapsible dinnerware system extended the same space-saving philosophy across cups, bowls and plates. Rigid rims provide structure during use while allowing the silicone bodies to collapse flat for storage. Components were designed to nest together and integrate with the cookware, creating compact cooking and dining sets for both solo and two-person adventures.
At the lightest end of the system, titanium utensils were developed around the needs of weight-conscious backpackers. Careful material distribution, functional eating surfaces and nestable forms deliver extremely low weight while maintaining the stiffness and usability expected from premium outdoor equipment.
The result is an integrated camp kitchen ecosystem where weight, packability, cooking performance and versatility are considered together, allowing users to carry a capable kitchen into the backcountry without unnecessary bulk.
Key design considerations: ultralight construction · titanium utensils · hard-anodised aluminium cookware · collapsible silicone construction · compact nesting · efficient heat transfer · reliable folding handles · integrated cookware and dinnerware · reduced packed volume · modular solo and two-person systems · intuitive outdoor usability
